“The Dealmaker” is a pair of glasses based on Irving “Swifty” Lazar.
An agent renowned for his flamboyant eyewear, assertiveness at the negotiating table,
and …ahem…prowess in the bedroom.
Irving Lazar was born in Brooklyn in 1907 and began practicing bankruptcy law in the 1930s.
Through a series of decisions and Mr. Lazar began negotiating deals for Vaudeville performers.
Realizing the potential to act as an agent as Vaudeville transitioned to Films, Mr. Lazar became
an agent marketing such acts as Humprey Bogart, Ernest Hemingway, Dirty Diana Ross
and even President Richard Nixon.
The story goes after putting together three major deals for Humphrey Bogart in a single day,
he was dubbed "Swifty" by Bogart. The moniker stuck but was a name he actually disliked.
